Chan Ching Tao (1887 – 1967)

Student of Master Taixu, contributed to spread the Buddhism in Hong Kong

Mr. Chan Ching Tao was appointed as one of the Board of Directors by Lady Clara on her last will in 1937. He succeeded as the chairman of the board after Wong Hok Yan passed away. In addition to continuing the development of Tung Lin Kok Yuen, he also co-founded the Hong Kong Buddhist Association, Wah Nam Buddhist Academy, and Hong Kong & Macau Regional Centre of the World Fellowship of Buddhists Limited with other Buddhist leaders. He also devoted his efforts to advocating for the construction of Buddhist hospitals and cemeteries as part of his commitment to social services. As a disciple of Master Taixu, Mr. Chan Ching Tao assisted Master Yin Shun in editing the “Chronicle of Master Taixu” starting in 1948, which was ultimately published in 1956.
