The Leap

1951

In order to meet the rapid economic development needs of Hong Kong, Po Kok Primary School was expanded to Junior High School and renamed as Po Kok Girls Junior Vocational Secondary School.

1954

In commemoration of the 80th Anniversary of Lady Clara’s birth, Lin Kok Memorial Building was completed and officially opened by Sir Robert Ho Tung.

1956

  • Po Kok School launched high school curriculum and renamed as “Po Kok Girl’s Vocational Secondary School cum Primary School”.
  • “Propagation of Buddhism in Po Kok” was changed as a quarterly publication.

1957

Venerable Man Sang was appointed as the Deputy Superintendent to assist Madam Lam Ling Chun, the Superintendent of the Yuen.

1958

Po Kok Primary School in Hung Shui Kiu, Yuen Long was founded.

1959

Course outline for the Buddhist Studies in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination and the “Buddhist Textbook for the Secondary School” were compiled by Madam Susan Kong.

1960

  • Buddhist studies became one of the subjects of Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination.
  •  “Po Kok” transformed from a quarterly to an annual publication.
  • Ms Wong Bik Ngo migrated to the United States and donated the property “Wang Fat Ching She” to Tung Lin Kok Yuen.

1961

“Man Kam Memorial Building” completed and officially opened by Governor Sir Robert Black, GCMG, OBE, in recognition of Sir Man-kam Lo's contribution to the Po Kok Free School. Sir Man-kam Lo was one of the board members appointed by Lady Clara in her will.

1966

Madam Lam Ling Chun passed away, Venerable Man Sang succeeded as the Superintendent of the Yuen and Venerable Kok On became the Principal of the school.

1973

Po Kok Buddhist Society was registered as a non-profit private Secondary School and renamed as “Po Kok Buddhist College”.

1975

In commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of Lady Clara’s birth, The school built a new academic building. The new school block at No. 9 Shan Kwong Road was officially inaugurated by Sir Tang Shiu Kin, CBE, KStJ, JP.

1986

Po Kok Girl’s Vocational Secondary School was renamed as “Po Kok Girl’s Secondary School” and the primary section was renamed as “Po Kok Girl’s Middle School (Primary Section)”.

1993

Venerable Man Sang passed away, Venerable Wai Ming succeeded as the fourth Superintendent of the Yuen.
